Sankhu Nagarkot Day Hike is an exciting 3-hour walk from Sankhu village (1500 m) with a 40-minute drive from Kathmandu. Newar village Sankhu is 5,000 years old according to the holy book Swasthani. It lies 17 km northeast of Kathmandu with the holy River Shalinadi, Madav Narayan, and Swasthani Mata Temple. Annual is a month-long festival celebrated by Hindu women.
Sankhu Nagarkot Day Hike follows a paved road, forest and village with superb views of terraced fields, Himalayas, green hills, and valleys. The day hiking ascends 500 meters gradually with uphill paths to the Nagarkot (2000 m). Professional guides and tourists interact with locals along the meadows, villages and tea shops. After two hours of hiking, Kattike Danda has a teashop and views of the outstanding Himalayas.
The paved road and forest walk to Nagarkot in 40 minutes. Nagarkot is a beautiful hill station with a view of Annapurna, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, Gaurishankar and Numbur. Nagarkot has 35 tourist-standard guesthouses, restaurants, and a bus stop. Afterwards, return to Kathmandu from Nagarkot-Bhaktapur, 32 km road in 2 hours.
