Rara Trekking

Rara trekking is off the beaten journey to north-western Nepal's largest lake, Rara Lake (10.8 sq km) in Rara National Park. The worth classical Rara Lake trek begins with Nepalgunj-Jumla flight along with the village of the Thakuri people. Now the Jeep tour goes from Kathmandu to Talcha Airport, then 2/3 hours hiking offers to Rara Lake. The trek is exciting for wildlife, plants, snow-capped mountains, Chuchemara Takura (4087 m), Rum Kandh (6731 m) and Malika Bandh (3444 m). Rara Lake is situated in Karnali Province, Chhayanath Rara Municipality Ward Number 2 (10 March 2017), Mugu district. The municipality has 14 wards, a 20078 population (2011), that covers 480.67 sq km of land. 

Rara Lake trek explores Rara National Park (1975), which covers a 106 sq km area in Mugu and Jumla district. Rara Lake (10.8 Sq Km) situated at 2990 meters above the sea, scales 167 m deep. This water drains out to River Mugu Karnali via Nijar Khola. The outstanding lake is surrounded by a coniferous forest of blue pine, juniper, spruce, rhododendron, oak, and cypress. There are an army post and a newly opened guest house. Rara lake offers 5 hours trek to the 13 km trail. Local people celebrate an annual festival in July and August worshipping God Thakur (God Kumara, son of God Shiva). 

Rara trekking is interesting to spot beautiful wildlife, red panda, Himalayan black bear, tahr, musk deer, leopard. There are 272 species of resident and migrant birds, including black-necked grebe, coots, great-crested grebe, mallard, common teal, gulls, and waterfowl. Rara lake reported three species of snow trout fish. September to November, March to May suggest the best time to visit Rara National Park. The Helicopter tour in Nepal is the best way for the Rara Lake tour.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu Airport
When the flight arrives at Tribhuvan International Airport, take the 6 km car ride with our guide, takes 25 minutes to reach the hotel. Check in hotel and guide will brief the programs. Stay overnight at a hotel with breakfast in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu to Nepalgunj - 50 minutes by flight
The flight takes 50 minutes with a view of the countryside, snow-capped mountains, and forests. Stay overnight at lodge in Nepalgunj.

Day 03: Nepalgunj to Jumla (2370 m) - 35 minutes by flight
The flight takes 35 minutes with the view of Dudukundari Himal, Sisne Himal, and forest. Stay overnight at camp in Jumla.

Day 04: Jumla to Padmora (2900 m) - 5/6 hours
The walk with a flat trail in the beginning, then route climbs uphill with a pine, spruces, firs forest. You will reach the last village Padmora in the valley. The Chhetris with mixed castes live here with the Hindu and Buddhist practice.

Day 05: Padmora to Bharagaon (2920 m) - 5/6 hours
Ascend a couple of hours to the Kharila pass (3050 m). The path descends Nyawre village (2660 m) with Newar and Chhetri people and potato field. Climb gradually uphill and across a suspension bridge over the Nyawre Khola, then walk continues with the forest of pine, oak, firs to the Bharagaon village with the Tibetan people. Here are wheat field, monastery and chorten with prayer flags.

Day 06: Bharagaon to Pina Village (2400 m) - 5/6 hours
This trail extends to the large valley then, cross a suspension bridge. Hike uphill to the check post of National Parks in Bhulbule at 3130 m above the sea. Entry your permit and climb gently to the treeless meadow at the Ghurchi Lagna pass (3450 m) with the chorten, cairns and prayer flag. The views of snowcapped peaks and River Mugu Karnali are beautiful. Climb downhill through the spruce forest to the trail junction in 45 minutes, then follow straight to the Pina village.

Day 07: Pina to Gum Ghadi (1980 m) - 5/6 hours
Walk through the pine forest to the Jhyari Khola. Cross a wooden bridge, then walk uphill and downhill. Musk deer, mountain pheasant can be seen here. Trek continues to the Gum Ghadi town where the Gurung and Sherpa people live. Buddhist shrines are here. This is the headquarters of Mugu district in Nepal.

Day 08: Gum Ghadi to Rara Lake (3050 m) - 4/5 hours
Descend and ascends to the village and forest. You can glimpse the Rara Lake on the way. The trail continues to reach the Rara Lake. It is the largest lake in Nepal. Enjoy quiet and beautiful nature. Stay overnight at a camp in Rara Lake.

Day 09: Rest Day at Rara Lake
Take a little Hike around the lake. Enjoy a fresh air, clean water with exploring the alpine wildlife. Take a plenty of photos from the rest of the life. This is a Shangri-La landscape. Stay overnight at camp.

Day 10: Rara Lake to Jhyari (2630 m) - 6/7 hours
Walk downhill to the pine forest. The hike continues and crosses a wooden bridge over the Jhyari Khola to reach the Jhyari village. It is a Thakuri and Gurung village with the Buddhist shrines in there.

Day 11: Jhyari to Bharagaon (2920 m) - 5/6 hours
Take downhill and uphill to the Ghurchi Lagna pass (3445 m). Hike uphill and downhill to the Bharagaon. It is a classic Tibetan village with Buddhist shrines. Stay overnight at camp in Bharagaon.

Day 12: Bharagaon to Padmora (2900 m) - 5/6 hours
Climb down a hill to the Khari La pass and Climb steeply down to the Cheery. Follow a flat trail that leads to the Padmora. It is a large village of the Hindu and Buddhist follower.

Day 13: Padmora to Jumla (2370 m) - 5/6 hours
Walk downhill with the forest, villages, ridges, and hills to the Jumla. Stay overnight at camp in Jumla.

Day 14: Jumla to Nepalgunj - 35 minutes by flight
The flight takes 35 minutes with the aerial views of countryside, jungle and mountain peaks. Stay overnight at hotel in Nepalgunj.

Day 15: Nepalgunj to Kathmandu
A flight takes 50 minutes to Kathmandu with aerial views of village, jungle, mountain peaks. Stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 16: Departure to Tribhuvan International Airport
