Changunarayan Nagarkot Day Hike is an exciting 10-kilometre walk from Changu village with a professional guide and car. Changu Narayan (1541 m) is a Newar town, 25 km northeast of Kathmandu takes a 45-minute drive. This day hike in Kathmandu Valley offers a 4-hour walk to Nagarkot village (1920 m).
Most hiking offers uphill tracks of forest and villages with outstanding views of the Himalayas, green hills, and valleys. Before the hike, visit a UNESCO World Heritage Changu Narayan Temple. The oldest Narayan Temple in Kathmandu Valley exhibits ancient monuments, arts, carvings, the first historical pillar inscription, Kileshwar Mahadev, and Chhinnamasta temple. It charges an entrance to the visitors (250 Rs for SAARC and 350 Rs for foreigners).
Changunarayan Nagarkot Day Hike follows the pathway of Tamang and Newar village with a daily rural lifestyle. Travellers accent 500-meter altitude to Nagarkot hill station. Hikers along the route glimpse alluring views of Bhaktapur, green hills and snow-capped mountains. Changunarayan to Telkot takes a 1:15-hour walk on a gravel road. The uphill hike from Telkot to Nagarkot meets the village, Jalpa Devi Temple and Peace Buddha Park. The peaceful trail and fresh air will be pleasant.
Nagarkot is Tamang and Newar village, 32 km northeast of Kathmandu Valley. There are 35 tourist-standard hotels with restaurants. The bus stop to Nagarkot tower (2175 m) is 4 km away with a view of mountains, sunrise, Bhaktapur and Kathmandu Valley. Participants can stay overnight in Nagarkot or return to Kathmandu (2 hours drive). An alternate downhill hike from Nagarkot to Changu Narayan takes 3:30 hours.
